The San Francisco Health Care Security Ordinance (HCSO) imposes an employer minimum health care expenditure requirement for certain employees working in San Francisco.  Employers should be aware that merely offering a very generous (even free!) health plan will not satisfy the expenditure requirement for employees not enrolled in the plan if no exemption applies.  Where the employer is not satisfying the expenditure requirement through the health plan, and no exemption applies, the employer needs to make quarterly contributions to the City Option that will in most cases fund an MRA on the employees’ behalf.

This session of Newfront Office Hours will address the key San Francisco HCSO considerations and best practice strategies for employers to comply with this unintuitive and challenging local law.
