The San Francisco Paid Parental Leave Ordinance (PPLO) imposes an employer supplemental compensation requirement for certain employees working in San Francisco. The law is designed to integrate with the California Paid Family Leave (PFL) program to provide employees with full pay during periods of new child bonding leave. Unlike the state PFL portion, there is no payroll tax or government-administered program to cover the cost and process associated with the PPLO benefits. Instead, employers are broadly responsible for all aspects of PPLO funding and administration.
